Carpe Musicam! Choir
An alternative name for this choir could be "The Serendipity Singers".
In early 2017,
when the orchestra was considering performing Handel's Hallelujah Chorus,
there was no choir available to provide the choral touch.
In a flash of genius,
Elsabe sent invitations to form a choir
to everyone on Carpe Musicam!'s mailing list.
The result?
A second musical family in the Southern Cape.
Numbering 60 strong on paper -
but rarely exceeding 45 on stage,
the choir is made up of members from
George, Sedgefield, Hoekwil, Wilderness and Grootbrakrivier -
just like the orchestra.
The choir has a rapidly growing repertoire
which ranges from"skat" singing
to the classics
and film music.
The only requirements for membership are a desire to sing lustily in a group
and to be able to hold a note.
They are now a permanent addition to the Carpe Musicam! family
and lend an extra dimension to concerts -
expecially the "Hallelujah!" performances
at Pentecost and Christmas.
(Some choir members have begun playing orchestral instruments
and can often be spotted moving between choir and orchestra
at various points of a performance!)
